The SINTEF Group, IFE (Institute for Energy Technology) and NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) cooperate on wind energy R&D through Centre for Renewable Energy (SFFE). The Centre is virtual and has a coordinative and consultative function for the education and research groups within renewable energy.

SINTEF, IFE and NTNU are also research partners in NOWITECH – Norwegian Research Centre for Offshore Wind technology. The objective of NOWITECH is pre-competitive research laying a foundation for industrial value creation and cost-effective offshore wind farms. Emphasis is on “deep-sea” (+30 m) including bottom-fixed and floating wind turbines. Work is focused on technical challenges including a strong PhD and post doc programme.
NOWITECH is part of the Centre for Environment-friendly Energy Research (CEER) scheme co-funded by the Research Council of Norway. The CEERs are established to conduct concentrated, focused and long-term research of high international calibre in order to solve specific challenges in the field of energy and the environment.
